Version 2
Updated: 11-06-05

I wrote this little windows app in .NET because I kept losing my hydrometer calibration chart. I figured if it was on a chart there had to be formula for the conversion. So, I went looking for a formula on the internet. I found several versions and stuck with the one that several other brewing software packages use. I also added in some extract weight to specific gravity conversions and expected alcohol content as well as a handy reference to the BJCP style guide. As always, check back occasionally for updates.

The previous versions are: 1.1.1770.39675 and 1.1.1786.20384. You can download the new zip file for free. Unfortunately, my best efforts have failed and you MUST uninstall the previous version prior to installing the new version. It uses the same registry keys, which is most likely the problem, but using the same registry keys keeps the registry from becoming full of useless junk keys. The latest version is 2.1.  Once you have the file, unzip the contents to a temporary folder and run the 'Setup' file. There is absolutely zero spyware or trojan activity in this software and it does not require an internet connection to run.

I want to work on a version that will run on a PDA, but I now need a PDA again to test it. .NET has a nice emulator, so I can work on that for now.

Here are some screenshots of Version 1.  Version 2 has several more tabs including:

  • SG v. Temp (hydrometer correction calculator)
  • Extract Weight (calculates SG/Extract Weight for both DME and LME)
  • Alcohol Content (calculates ABV, ABW, Calories, Attenuation, and Freezing point)
  • Priming Guide (calculates both bottling and kegging methods for desired volumes of CO2 as well as showing a style guide based on the 2006 BJCP guidelines)
  • Hop Utilization Calculator (shows actual utilization achieved for a given boil time and AA content.  (Includes the hop guide with typical AA contents)
  • Style Guide (based on the 2008 BJCP style guide)

News

Minor revision to Release 2
Release 2 was updated with the new logo and updated to the current BJCP style guidlines.  In addition the .NET framework was updated to 2.0 (it was 1.1).  Overall these are minor changes.

2nd Major update released Nov 6, 2005. Several new features have been added including bottle priming and forced carbonation calculators as well as a hop utilization calculator. Calculator for Extract Weight now accounts for Liquid Malt Extract in addition to the original Dry Malt Extract. Behind the scenes many of the calculation functions have been put into a class that I can use in other programs and some other more general code cleanup.

1st Update released Nov 22, 2004. Now your settings are saved when you exit the program so that the next time you run it, you don't need to change everything from F to C or set your Hydrometer calibration temperature. It even stores and remembers the last style you were looking at in the style guide.
